The High Republic is the Future of Star Wars

Last night the next chapter of Star Wars was revealed during the Project Luminous unveiling.  Since the door has been slammed shut on the Skywalker Saga it’s time to head into new uncharted territory, the High Republic Era.  This multi-platform interconnecting story taking place roughly 200 years before the events of The Phantom Menace will be spearheaded by authors Charles Soule (Marvel Comics Star Wars, The Rise of Kylo RenDarth Vader) Cavan Scott (IDW Comics Star Wars: Adventures in Wild Space), Justina Ireland (Spark of the ResistanceLando’s Luck), Daniel José Older (Last Shot, “Born in the Storm”), & Claudia Gray (Master & ApprenticeBloodline).

This Era will see the height of the republic, whose borders are ever expanding as new worlds, cultures, and races are introduced and discovered.  This will also represent the Golden Age of the Jedi, a time when they were “guardians of peace & justice”, as Sir Alec Guiness’ Obi-Wan Kenobi recanted to a young farm boy.  This generation of Jedi operate from the central systems in a “knights of the round table” fashion to the “wild west” fringe of the outer rim.

The premise of this massive tale began as a simple question, “What scares the Jedi?”.  Enter the Nihil, described as “space vikings” who use hyperspace dangerously and live by the code, “you can’t take it with you, but we can take it from you”.  That’s not all, this time period takes place during Darth Banes rule of two, so it will be interesting to see how/if that is incorporated since the Jedi believed them to be extinct since the days of the Old Republic.

Kicking off this August, the first phase of Star Wars: The High Republic starts with Light of the Jedi (Soule).  It’s during this novel that a “great disaster” occurs that unites the Jedi, bringing them together from the farthest reaches of space.  After that comes the young adult novel Into the Dark (Claudia Grey), A Test of Courage (Ireland), High Republic Adventures comic series from IDW (Older), & Star Wars: The High Repulic comic series from Marvel (Scott).  From there rumors of games, television, and film are abound and will likely live or die by the execution & success/failure of this initiative. Check out the covers below & keep checking back with us for more on Star Wars: The High Republic.
